"Revival is more than big meetings. It
is more than religious excitement. It is more than the quickening
of the saints, or their being filled with the Holy Spirit. It
is more than a great ingathering of souls. One may have one of
these without revival, and yet revival includes them all...Revival
can never be explained in terms of activity, organization, meetings,
personalities, preachings. These may or may not be involved in
the work, but they do not and cannot account for the effects produced."
(Arthur Wallis, "In the Day of Thy Power." London:Christian
Literature Crusade, 1956, pages 20, 22-23).
Revival
is "the descent, the outpouring of the spirit over and
above his usual, ordinary work: this amazing, unusual,
extraordinary thing, which God in his sovreignty and
infinite grace has done to the Church from time to time during
the long centuries of her history." (D. Martyn
Lloyd-Jones. "Revival" Westchester, IL.:Crossway
Books, 1988, page 54)
In
evangelistic campaigns, missions, seminars and Bible conferences,
man takes the initiative. In genuine REVIVAL, God
takes the initiative. THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT, THE
SUM OF THE MATTER. If you do not grasp that basic truth,
you will never have REVIVAL.
